The allowance for those joining in April 2025 will be increased.

Starting from the October 2024 payment, the housing allowance for individuals living alone will be increased to 50,000 yen.

As a result, the salary for new employees will be as follows:

  • Salary: 260,000 yen
  • Housing Allowance (within a 2-station or 2-kilometer radius): 50,000 yen
  • Educational Book Allowance: 10,000 yen
  • Remote Work Allowance: 4,000 yen
  • Total: 324,000 yen

Social insurance premiums, in Bunkyo and Taito wards, will be around 40,000 yen, so the take-home salary will be approximately 280,000 yen.

Given the location, a slightly larger 1K or 1LDK apartment typically costs around 100,000 to 120,000 yen per month. After paying rent, you would still have 160,000 to 180,000 yen remaining, which allows for significant savings.

Some people consider living farther out in cheaper areas within the 2-station or 2-kilometer radius. The difference in rent could be up to 20,000 yen per month, which equals a saving of 240,000 yen annually.

However, living in such a location could require a 40-minute walk to commute, and you may need to pay for subway fares as well.

If you live somewhere that’s only 10 minutes away from work, you can enjoy more free time, which you can use however you like.

Personally, I believe that choosing a location that gives you more free time and a better environment for your mind and body, instead of saving up to 240,000 yen annually, is the better option. You can then focus on your work, improve your performance, and quickly increase your salary.

By the way, someone who joined in April 2024 was promoted to director starting October 1st. They achieved this in just six months after joining.

Their salary doubled instantly!

This is equivalent to the salary of someone in their 40s at a typical company.
